SAA conference day 2

May 25, 2012

Last night as soon as I arrived in the Hilton in Minneapolis, I ran into the group lesson session given by Carey Beth Hockett, it was the most fun group lesson consisting of over 50 teachers and parents. Yes, some parents are also participating in this conference. We have about 800+ teachers and 300+ students. WOW!!! 3 hours of group lesson seemed like a 30min lesson….I got so many great ideas from Carey that I can’t wait to try them with my students:) Thanks to my husband for letting me come out and take care of Austin by himself in CA…I love you Dave!!!:)

I had great lessons this afternoon, but I am particularly fond of a lesson I gave/didn’t give to a little girl. The reason I say I didn’t really give the lesson was because we didn’t go over any of the notes from the piece she was supposed to play for me. I just asked her to play it for me because she told me she could already memorize it. Both the mom and I were in shock when I played through the duet part for her while she memorized the entire piece without any mistakes. How in the world did she do that you ask?? Mostly because she listened to the CD a lot and recognized all the notes from the piece from previous songs. What is the piece you ask? It’s called Long, Long Ago:) I believe the mom is still in a state of shock and being proud of her daughter at the same time:) I hope my students or any musicians out there, just remember to always listen to what you are playing…it really works!!!:)

Welcome to my studio!

Today’s such a nice sunny day here in California.  We wish all the mothers out there a very happy mother’s day! My best mother’s day gift is to spend the day with my favorite son and best husband/dad.  Have a fabulous week everyone!:)

We are all registered to attend the 2012 Southern California Suzuki Institute @ Scripps College in July:) Austin is working hard for the next couple months to try to finish up Suzuki Book I and move onto Suzuki Book II.  I’m looking forward to his progress this summer in both violin and piano.   Austin’s first violin recital will be on May 20th, 2012, his first piano recital will be on June 9th, 2012, and his first Chinese class performance will be on June 16th, 2012.  What a memorable year it has been! Both Dave and I feel so blessed to live in such a family-oriented community.  We are looking forward to many more amazing years here in Mountain House:)

Thanks to my friend Helen who came to visit us from China and took photos while I was teaching.  As you can see, I am proud of my students whether they are children or adults and I truly love what I do and enjoy every moment of my students’ progress.
