T-Shirt Time!!!:)

February 16, 2012

Spring is in the air, our trees in the backyard are already budding, which means the kids are going to be wearing T-SHIRTS to school soon..ok..since we’re in CA, kids are already wearing T-shirts in schools now, but I’m still in my ‘winter’ mode.  As I tried to think of a way to motivate my students, I’ve decided to reward them with the T-shirts I designed in exchange for their practice charts and listening charts, which is 200 times of practice and 100 times of listening:) Fair enough? I think so:)

These T-shirts are very high quality 100% cotton and Made in Taiwan:)  I’m very happy to give them away to my students so they feel proud of learning and playing the violin:)

Here are photos of the T-shirts laying down in my studio:

I can’t wait to see my students in these colorful shirts:)

Violin Improv Online Lesson

February 13, 2012

Lately, I’ve been wanting to make my private lessons even more fun for the students, so I started taking some online improv classes with Christian Howes who is a Jazz violinist.  He has lots of videos online that are quite helpful to my teachings and gave me lots of ideas on how to make my private lessons even more interesting aside from all the Suzuki pieces:)

Learning how to teach violin improv is very exciting for me and I can’t wait to try some of these games with my students:) If you are also interested in learning how to do violin improv, you can visit http://christianhowes.com/

Parents as Partners Online

February 2, 2012

The time has started for the parents to plug in and check out the videos online.

Most of my students’ parents have registered to Parents as Partners Online where they will have access to videos from Jan.30-June 30 and they will learn so much from each other by the meetings I am planning to set up for them once a month.

I appreciate how the parents are being so cooperative and supportive of my teachings and I am truly blessed to have these wonderful parents by my side working together to help their children become wonderful human beings.

I’m proud to share this video of the mothers who spent the last 3 months learning with me.  They have worked so hard not only on organizing the New Year Celebration, but also preparing this piece for everyone:

It’s BOOKED!!! I’ll be attending the 2012 SAA Conference in Minneapolis, MN during Memorial Day weekend!! I’m super excited!!! I can’t wait to see Dr. William Starr again and hopefully I’ll get a picture with him as well:)

Happy Year of the Dragon!!!

January 23, 2012

Enjoy this clip from Saturday night’s performance at Bethany Elementary School in Mountain House, CA

If you would like to see Part 1 of the Saturday night’s celebration, you can view it here:

This year is a very special year for all of us here in Mountain House.  It’s the first year we will celebrate the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Dragon in our very own little town of ~10,000 people:) A group of very dedicated mothers and fathers in Mountain House have formed a committee since October 2011 to prepare for this festive night, which will be held at Bethany Elementary School on Jan.21, 2012 @ 4:30pm.  Tickets will be $12/adult and $7/child(2-12yrs old), and it includes a multi-cultural show with dances from different Asian countries, martial arts demonstrations, and singing along with some delicious Chinese and Indian dishes, some of which are made by our very own Mountain House residents.  It will be a very special and memorable night in which our family will be participating in, and we feel so blessed to be a part of this wonderful community.

On a side note, another MH violin teacher and I have formed a group of talented string players called Mountain House Suzuki Strings and we will be performing on Saturday night as well!!

Come on and join us if you’re close by and want to see a great show along with some delicious food this Saturday!!! 🙂

The Power of Listening

January 11, 2012

I had to share this picture with all of you!!! This is a picture my student’s younger sister drew while waiting for her brother to finish up his violin lesson.  When he was done with his lesson, she wanted me to see her drawing and as you can see, what a wonderful gift she gave me after I finished teaching:)
