We decided to review and record Austin playing all of the Twinkle Variations, sorry for my horrible piano accompaniment:(

I think playing review pieces is very beneficial for anyone that’s playing an instrument.  Austin really enjoyed playing old pieces and it’s becoming a habit of his to review an old piece every time he picks up the violin to practice:)

Austin has started the last piece in Suzuki Book 1, which is probably the most difficult piece in the entire book with lots of new techniques, such as grace notes, accidentals, and slurring 16th notes, which means a much faster finger action is needed on the violin hand.

My suggestion for practicing this piece is focusing on one line a day.  So far, Austin has done very well with this, but boy is it hard to stop him when he wants to go forward and onto the next line.  Patience is needed for the both of us in this piece.  I told him I will be recording him on the entire Suzuki Book 1 after he is finished with Gavotte.  I think he is looking forward to making this video and sharing it on youtube:)

He Has Risen!!!

April 8, 2012

Our first Easter Holiday spent in Mountain House, CA.  No wind, mid 70s perfect weather, and great time with friends and family! Thank you God for everything you’ve given us and continue to bless us with!

Austin's class decorating their own Easter baskets:)

Austin and his classmate:)

That's the most children I've ever seen at Central Park in Mountain House, CA

Let's start picking up the eggs!!!

I normally don’t write much about where we live, but when we saw this wonderful video made about our beautiful town, I just had to share it with all of you!

After watching this video, you will probably also want to move to a place like Mountain House, CA. This place is an hour drive from San Francisco, 3 hours to Tahoe ski resorts and Yosemite National Park. It’s not a big city so it has room for many parks and the space you need to buy a nice sized home for you and your family. Home prices are very reasonable considering the location of this place. We’ve traveled and lived in many places over the past 30+ years and Mountain House is definitely the #1 place to live and raise a family according to us:)

DJA is now DJAA:)

Annie

We are so excited to welcome Annie into our home, so now our family members are Dave, Jianni, Austin, and Annie…AKA DJAA:) She’s so sweet and plays so well with Austin.  Just over the past few days of having Annie in our home, Austin has developed more responsibilities of feeding Annie and putting her into her crate and of course playing with her.  She has kept him so busy, but he’s done really well with his time management of knowing when to do his homework and practice violin and piano.  Here’s a picture of our happy Austin:)

Austin memorized Minuet 2 without the repeats because he’s still getting used to having a camera in front of him while he’s practicing the violin..hehe..

Enjoy!!!

My students and I joined Julie’s Strings in Brentwood for a Suzuki Play-In on Mar.3rd.  It was a lot of fun!!! Hope you enjoy the photos and the video!!!

Growing Austin

February 21, 2012

Future Jeremy Lin?

My 7-year old is growing taller by the day!! Not only is he growing taller, but he is growing in his music appreciation sense.  He was able to sit through a 1 hour recital without getting impatient or asking me ‘when is this going to be over?’ This is such a blessing!!!

As for Austin’s recent violin update…he is working on Minuet 2 by J.S. Bach in Book I of Suzuki and we’re thinking of attending the Southern California Suzuki Institute in the summer time. I must admit how much I LOVED attending the Suzuki Institutes as a family in 2011.  It allowed us to enjoy family time and playing time together.  We can truly experience the joy of music while attending these institutes.  I encourage anyone out there thinking about attending a Suzuki Institute to go ahead and sign up to a place you would like to go as a family and JUST DO IT!!! The money spent here is well worth it for the sake of your child’s musical growth and appreciation. Here’s the link to the Suzuki Summer Institutes: http://suzukiassociation.org/events/institutes/
